A transient is an undergraduate student in good standing at another institution who enrolls for one semester at Georgia Southwestern in order to complete work to be transferred back to their home institution. Applying as a transient student and registering for classes are easy at Southwestern. Below are the steps to take to apply, be accepted, and register for classes.

To Apply

  1. Refer to the Georgia Southwestern Class Schedule to ensure your desired course is being offered and has available seats. Please note that current and new GSW students have priority when registering for classes. Transient registration dates are as follows (if the date falls on a weekend, registration will begin the following Monday):
    • Fall Semester - July 15th
    • Spring Semester - December 1st
    • Summer Semester - April 27th
  2. and pay the $25 non-refundable application fee.
  3. Request an official Letter of Transient Permission to be mailed to us from your current institution.
  4. Your admission status is updated in real time to reflect our records at that exact moment. You can review what information is needed and what documents have been received. You will be aware of your admissions decision immediately.

All application materials should be mailed to: Office of Admissions, Georgia Southwestern State University, 800 GSW State University Drive, Americus, GA 31709.

Once Accepted

  1. Transient registration dates are as follows (if the date falls on a weekend, registration will begin the following Monday):
    • Fall Semester - July 15th
    • Spring Semester - December 1st
    • Summer Semester - April 27th
  2. On or after the advertised registration date, contact Allison Fleet, Registrar Support Specialist/Transfer Coordinator, by email at allison.fleet@birkahherbalsurabaya.com to register for classes.
    • Students must include the course name and CRN number. You can refer to the class schedule for this information.
    • You must be accepted to Georgia Southwestern before you can register for classes.
    • Please note that admission to Southwestern does not guarantee registration for specific classes.
  3. Submit proof of Lawful Presence if you plan to receive in-state tuition. Online only students and students paying out-of-state tuition are not required to submit this documentation.
  4. Submit your immunization form to the GSW Health Center. Online only students must still submit this form, but there is an exemption checkbox for online only students.
  5. If you intend to live on our campus, contact the Office of Residence Life to receive your housing application. There is a $50 application fee for housing.
